We introduce you to Ana Paúl, an artist and paper craftswoman with whom she creates surprising works full of delicacy and expressiveness, inspired by the beauty of nature. She tells us about it.

Ever since I was a child I have been attracted to paper, its expressiveness, its textures, its folds and its volume. The transformative quality of this humble but noble material and the influence of orientalism with its delicacy, mystery and use of colour, underpins all my work.

The beauty of nature is my inspiration and the subtlety of colour and detail my focus. I use different types of paper, painting them and adding a special treatment to obtain a sculptural form. A totally handmade work made in a very personal way.

Forests and trees predominate in my works, integrating them into interiors imitating nature with a free interpretation. The expression of colour plays an important role in bringing forests to life. The primordial connection that trees have with the Earth and the Universe is a constant theme in my works, reinterpreting it in different ways.

I am captivated by forests and trees, their majestic beauty and primeval mystery. In a changing world constantly presenting new challenges, trees provide a deep-rooted and enduring sense of protection and support. Entering the forest is a magical experience that stimulates the deep connection we humans have with our planet and ourselves.

My work

Forests dominate my work and I use paper in a sculptural way to create an ethereal composition. The expression of colour plays a key role in bringing the forests to life.

In the Layered forests series I express my admiration for trees and forests, although the interpretation is very free, for some they are more like tree bark or reptile skin. The work requires a lot of concentration, especially because of the malleability of the material and the choice of colours. I feel that my artistic world lies at the confluence of the artificial and the natural.

Ana Paúl

Ana Paúl was born in Barcelona and grew up in this city. Since she was a child she was always attracted by paper and its versatility and from an early age she started to create colourful collages and compositions using different types of paper and combining personal and found images.

After completing her studies, she first moved to London before moving to Paris, where she lived for 20 years. Her career in the fashion industry in Paris exposed her to great creativity and artistic freedom through constant contact with top designers.
