Although the BM0121 model could easily pass for a contemporary creation, this dining table was first introduced in 1952 at the Spring Exhibition of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. It was part of a series of democratic furniture pieces conceived for small homes. Without original blueprints to guide its reproduction,\u00a0Carl Hansen & S\u00f8n<\/a>\u00a0meticulously reconstructed the table from an antique model, measured carefully by hand.<\/p>\n\n

Mogensen, one of the great figures of Danish design, stood out for his ability to merge everyday functionality with refined beauty. The BM0121 table is no exception. At first glance, its silhouette appears simple, but a closer look reveals complex details that demand high-level craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tabletop, for example, is only 19 mm thick, giving it a lightweight and elegant appearance. To ensure its stability, curved steel profiles have been incorporated underneath. The table\u2019s apron, with its delicate upward curve, not only offers an attractive profile but also expands legroom. The subtly tapered legs further emphasize its light, graceful expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Functional ingenuity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visionary for his time, B\u00f8rge Mogensen left behind a legacy that laid the foundations of Scandinavian minimalism. His visual language\u2014sober and timeless\u2014finds in the BM0121 table a perfect synthesis of form and function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This extendable design, available with an additional leaf in oak or MDF, comfortably seats six people without sacrificing its visual lightness. Crafted from FSC-certified solid oak, the tabletop is supported by a hidden steel structure that enhances its firmness. Every detail\u2014from the tapered legs to the curved apron\u2014responds to a logic that is both aesthetic and ergonomic.<\/p>\n\n\n

The BM0121 offers a versatile and refined solution for compact spaces, bringing together warmth, balance, and functionality.<\/p>\n\n

B\u00f8rge Mogensen: El funcionalismo c\u00e1lido del dise\u00f1o dan\u00e9s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nacido en Aalborg en 1914, B\u00f8rge Mogensen es una de las figuras m\u00e1s influyentes del dise\u00f1o escandinavo del siglo XX. Su enfoque, centrado en la funcionalidad y la simplicidad, ha dejado huella en el mobiliario moderno. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formado inicialmente como ebanista, Mogensen continu\u00f3 sus estudios en la Escuela Danesa de Artes y Oficios y posteriormente en la Real Academia Danesa de Bellas Artes, donde fue disc\u00edpulo de Kaare Klint. Esta formaci\u00f3n dual le permiti\u00f3 combinar la artesan\u00eda tradicional con principios de dise\u00f1o racionalista, dando lugar a piezas que equilibran est\u00e9tica y utilidad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entre 1942 y 1950, dirigi\u00f3 el estudio de dise\u00f1o de FDB M\u00f8bler, una cooperativa que buscaba democratizar el acceso al buen dise\u00f1o. All\u00ed, Mogensen desarroll\u00f3 muebles asequibles y funcionales, pensados para la vida cotidiana de las familias danesas. En 1950, estableci\u00f3 su propio estudio, desde donde continu\u00f3 explorando soluciones de mobiliario que respondieran a las necesidades reales de las personas.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Su estilo se caracteriza por l\u00edneas limpias y estructuras robustas, con una clara influencia de la tradici\u00f3n artesanal escandinava. Entre sus dise\u00f1os m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticos se encuentran la Silla Espa\u00f1ola<\/em> (1958), que combina cuero y madera en una forma s\u00f3lida y elegante, y el Sof\u00e1 Spokeback<\/em> (1945), notable por su ligereza visual y funcionalidad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mogensen cre\u00eda firmemente que los muebles deb\u00edan mejorar con el uso, adquiriendo car\u00e1cter y belleza con el paso del tiempo. Esta filosof\u00eda se refleja en su elecci\u00f3n de materiales naturales y en su atenci\u00f3n al detalle constructivo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
