In the perfectly gridded fabric of Barcelona\u2019s Eixample\u2014where the city breathes through its inner courtyards and unfolds with Cerd\u00e0\u2019s poetic logic\u2014the studios of Laura Mu\u00f1oz<\/a> and Aromir Arquitectes<\/a> have completed the renovation of a 1920s residence on Passeig de Sant Joan. Between the living history of its hydraulic floor tiles and the renewed light that now floods each room, the project reveals a subtle balance between heritage and modernity.<\/p>\n\n\n

Artworks, essential to this project, create focal points for contemplation and emotion: pieces by artist Aythamy Armas and photographer Sune Christiansen introduce an intimate and symbolic dimension that links the interior with the poetic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n

The main challenge was to bring natural light into the heart of the home. To achieve this, the gallery\u2014a traditional feature of the Eixample and a true threshold between inside and outside\u2014was reimagined as the central axis of the project. Connected to the inner courtyard, it becomes an urban oasis in dialogue with greenery and open air, gently dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior.<\/p>\n\n\n

Outdoors, furniture from Kettal<\/strong> and Skaargarden<\/strong>\u2014such as the Giro<\/strong> chairs and table, or the B\u00f6nan<\/strong> modular sofa\u2014extend the comfort and design language of the interiors to the open-air courtyard, completing a holistic domestic experience.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In the living room, the generously proportioned\u00a0Catena<\/strong>\u00a0modular sofa by Ferm Living sits alongside the\u00a0Rico Louisina<\/strong>armchair, also by Ferm Living, and the\u00a0Soul<\/strong>\u00a0chair by Bolia.\u00a0Disco<\/strong>\u00a0tables by Basta and a custom wool rug by\u00a0Cotlin<\/strong>\u00a0add warmth and texture. Curtains and upholstery by\u00a0Mar Casal<\/strong>\u00a0soften the natural light.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The new layout embraces an open-space concept, allowing the daytime areas\u2014living room, dining room, kitchen and multipurpose space\u2014to flow seamlessly into the gallery and courtyard beyond. A central core, housing the wet areas, structures the circulation and elegantly separates the private from the social. The main bedrooms, oriented to the east, open onto balconies along the Passeig, welcoming the morning light and the rhythm of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the dining area, a vintage\u00a0Shaker<\/strong>\u00a0table by B\u00f8rge Mogensen for C.M. Madsen is surrounded by his iconic\u00a0J39<\/strong>\u00a0chairs for FDB M\u00f8bler, paired with a handcrafted bench found on Etsy\u2014simple, honest and rich in character.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The project lovingly restores original architectural features: ceiling mouldings, glazed wooden doors, timber windows and beautifully preserved hydraulic floors. These historical elements are complemented by contemporary materials such as microcement, used here as a neutral and discreet canvas that allows the original textures to breathe and take centre stage.<\/p>\n\n

The aesthetic narrative of this home is also articulated through a carefully curated selection of furnishings, lighting and artwork by Laura Mu\u00f1oz. Every room is shaped by tactile elements that speak of memory, sensitivity and functional beauty. Each object, each colour, each texture has been chosen with the precision of a visual poem.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the bedroom, a custom headboard by\u00a0Mar Casal<\/strong>\u00a0takes centre stage, framed by\u00a0Lame Grass 304<\/strong>\u00a0wall sconces by DCW Editions Paris.<\/p>\n\n

The lighting combines contemporary classics such as the\u00a0TMM<\/strong>\u00a0wall lamp by Santa & Cole and\u00a0Tense<\/strong>\u00a0lamps by New Works, with more sculptural pieces like the\u00a0Span Light<\/strong>\u00a0by E15 and\u00a0Akari<\/strong>\u00a0by Vitra. The\u00a0Cesta<\/strong>\u00a0lamp by Santa & Cole and the\u00a0Flowerpot<\/strong>\u00a0model by &Tradition lend a poetic, timeless presence.<\/p>\n\n

In the home office, the\u00a0CPH 90<\/strong>\u00a0desk by HAY is combined with a wheeled\u00a0Catifa<\/strong>\u00a0chair by Arper, offering functionality without compromising on visual coherence.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In 2013, she founded her own studio in Barcelona, embarking on an independent journey marked by trust, collaboration and an acute attention to detail. Since then, she has led projects ranging from restaurants and hotels to private homes and commercial spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among her most notable projects: Restaurante Desde 1911 (Madrid), where aesthetic delicacy and functionality come together in a culinary space of refined elegance, Hotel Casbah (Formentera), a Mediterranean retreat defined by natural materials and a soft, serene palette, Faborit L\u2019Illa Diagonal caf\u00e9 (Barcelona), a transformation of a triangular-plan space into an open, light-filled interior that reveals both height and intelligent flow, Talenom offices (Barcelona), where a balance between professionalism and warmth fosters a motivating workplace, and The residence on Passeig Sant Joan (Barcelona), a thoughtful renovation that honours the building\u2019s modernist heritage while introducing contemporary interventions to create a luminous, functional home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, Laura has collaborated closely with architects, offering her eye for materiality, furnishings, lighting and art\u2014contributions that bring an interior sensitivity to architectural practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
