Gabriel Tan was born in 1982 in Singapore. Graduated in Industrial Design from the National University of Singapore in 2007. Partner of Outofstock Design from 2006 to 2015. Founded Gabriel Tan Studio and Studio Antimatter in 2016, creative director of Ariake since 2016. Co-founded the artisanal design brand Origin Made in 2018.<\/p>\n
He stands out in his work for his ability to redefine existing archetypes and his sensitivity to detail. Working in both Singapore and Porto allows him and his team to draw on influences from Asia and Europe, which influences the studio’s design process and inspires new discoveries.<\/p>\n
Gabriel Tan’s works have won the IDEA award from the Society of Industrial Designers of America, the Japan Good Design Award and the President’s Design Award, and have been exhibited at design fairs around the world. Tan has given guest lectures at Lasalle College of the Arts, the National University of Singapore, the University of Oregon and Pratt Institute, and has also served as a jury member for the Cannes Lions Festival and the Core77 Design Awards.<\/p>\n
Gabriel Tan Studio<\/strong>, founded by Gabriel Tan in 2016, is a design studio working at cultural intersections, based in Singapore and Porto. Often exploring new ways of reinterpreting tradition, craft and technology, they have designed furniture and products for B&B Italia, Herman Miller, Duxiana, Design Within Reach, Menu, Bl\u00e5 Station and Abstracta, while creatively directing Japanese furniture brand Ariake and artisanal design brand Origin Made.
