His passion for <span class=\"s1\">art, sculpture, and drawing<\/span> led him in <span class=\"s1\">1994<\/span> to train in France with the <span class=\"s1\">Compagnons du Devoir<\/span>, a centuries-old French guild of master artisans whose roots trace back to the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The <span class=\"s1\">Compagnons\u2019 training<\/span> involves an itinerant phase known as the <span class=\"s1\">\u201cTour de France,\u201d<\/span> during which apprentices travel across the country to work alongside various master craftsmen. This unique experience exposed Max to a rich variety of <span class=\"s1\">traditional techniques and regional approaches<\/span>, marking the beginning of a deeply personal and professional journey that continues to shape his work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">After years of working in <span class=\"s1\">Europe, America, and Africa<\/span>, Max settled in <span class=\"s1\">Alt Empord\u00e0 (Girona)<\/span> in <span class=\"s1\">2007<\/span>, where he founded his workshop <span class=\"s1\">Max Madera<\/span>. Specializing in <span class=\"s1\">wooden structural carpentry<\/span>, he began by building porches and small roof structures, gradually gaining recognition for his <span class=\"s1\">mastery of traditional methods<\/span> and <span class=\"s1\">exceptional craftsmanship<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">His expertise has led to involvement in <span class=\"s1\">significant heritage restoration projects<\/span> as well as the construction and rehabilitation of <span class=\"s1\">large-scale wooden structures<\/span> in historic homes and rural estates. He leads a team composed of <span class=\"s1\">skilled carpenters and trainees<\/span>, welcoming <span class=\"s1\">students and apprentices<\/span>\u2014particularly from the Compagnons network\u2014offering them a hands-on education much like the one that shaped his own early career.<\/p>\n<p>Notable Projects<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Restoration of the bell tower<span class=\"s1\"> at the <\/span>Church of Sant Andreu de Seriny\u00e0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Construction of the <span class=\"s1\">dome at Mas Marroch<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Reconstruction of <\/span>beams and rafters in the Claustre dels Gats<span class=\"s1\"> at the <\/span>Monastery of Pedralbes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Full rehabilitation of <span class=\"s1\">Can Buch<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Restoration of <\/span>Casa Bur\u00e9s<span class=\"s1\">, including the <\/span>recovery of 86 uniquely carved beam heads<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Today, <span class=\"s1\">Max Rutgers<\/span> continues to honor and evolve the tradition of <span class=\"s1\">structural carpentry<\/span>, merging <span class=\"s1\">historic craftsmanship with contemporary needs<\/span> and cultivating the next generation of woodworkers through <span class=\"s1\">mentorship and collaboration<\/span>.
