The passion Sebasti\u00e1n feels for his craft has been growing since he was a child in his hometown, Fuentes de Andaluc\u00eda (Seville). In its streets, he was able to enjoy the characteristic brick fa\u00e7ades that adorn the local houses.<\/p>\n
Sebasti\u00e1n began learning the trade under the guidance of his father, Jos\u00e9 P\u00e9rez Gamero, who was locally known as \u201cel Sillero.\u201d This training, based on daily hands-on work at construction sites, allowed him to acquire the necessary knowledge to carry out a wide variety of masonry work. Among these, he was particularly drawn to the art of carving clay bricks. He discovered his artistic potential and grew enthusiastic about a craft in which he has specialized over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn our work, everything is done by hand, and that\u2019s the most beautiful part of the trade. For me, this isn\u2019t work\u2014it\u2019s enjoyment. In this craft, we use bricks, chisels, and hammers. Even though we aim for perfection and the pieces have to be custom-made, since everything is done by hand, no two pieces are ever the same. That\u2019s what makes it artisanal\u2014each piece is unique,\u201d Sebasti\u00e1n explains.<\/p>\n
Thanks to his mastery of the technique of carving fired clay bricks, he has been able to carry out a large number of works, most of them in Fuentes de Andaluc\u00eda, both in new constructions and restoration projects.<\/p>\n
A key part of his professional development has been his collaboration with the architect from \u00c9cija, Fernando Mart\u00edn Sanju\u00e1n, winner of the 2020 Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture. This partnership has allowed him to deepen his understanding of the valuable architectural heritage of the \u00c9cija region.<\/p>\n
Among the projects Sebasti\u00e1n has undertaken, his numerous contributions to the fa\u00e7ades of various homes in Fuentes de Andaluc\u00eda stand out. He was responsible for designing and incorporating ornamental elements such as pilasters, cornices, pediments, pendants, and estipites\u2014all crafted from carved fired clay bricks.<\/p>\n
He has also completed major restoration projects on historic buildings, such as a grand mansion on Lora del R\u00edo Street in the town of Fuentes de Andaluc\u00eda.
