There are photographers who document architecture, and a rare few who embody it. Miguel de Guzm\u00e1n (Madrid, 1972) belongs to this latter lineage, those who have turned the camera into an extension of space, an instrument capable not only of recording but of interpreting and translating atmospheres, intentions, and invisible tensions.<\/p>\n
Trained in architecture at the Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid and the Technische Universit\u00e4t Berlin, Miguel de Guzm\u00e1n soon left architectural practice behind to devote himself fully to image-making. Yet that architectural background, his deep understanding of volume, scale, light, and spatial sequence, remains present in every frame, in every sequence he composes. His gaze is not an external judgment but an intimate, attentive, and precise dialogue with the work he photographs.<\/p>\n
In 2008, together with Roc\u00edo Romero, he founded Imagen Subliminal<\/i>, a photography and audiovisual studio that has become a reference in the field, blending technical precision with a strong poetic sensibility. Through his images, many of the most innovative contemporary architecture studios, both in Spain and abroad, have found a visual voice that represents them with honesty and sensitivity.<\/p>\n
Among his most notable projects are the Banco de Espa\u00f1a headquarters in Ja\u00e9n by Linazasoro&S\u00e1nchez, Casa del Lector<\/i>in Matadero Madrid by Ant\u00f3n Garc\u00eda-Abril and Ensamble Studio, the Espacio Fundaci\u00f3n Telef\u00f3nica<\/i> by Moneo Brock, the Casa del Litoral<\/i> by Picharchitects in Mallorca, and the Espacio Mahou<\/i> by Mayice Studio. He has also been the eye behind the new architecture of Madrid R\u00edo, the vibrant projects of Langarita-Navarro, the material experimentation of Studio Animal, and the delicate interventions of SUMA Arquitectura.<\/p>\n
His camera has explored houses, museums, public spaces, schools, offices, plazas, and ephemeral installations. But it has also moved across formats, incorporating video as a narrative tool and exploring time, sound, and movement as new dimensions of the built environment. Some of his architectural short films, such as The Walker<\/i>, Daylight Study<\/i>, or Casa en Never Never Land<\/i>, have gained international recognition for their ability to craft spatial narratives that are as unsettling as they are evocative.<\/p>\n
