Florian Pretet and Lisa Mukhia Pretet create hand-knotted rugs that bring together Tibetan tradition and a contemporary graphic sensibility. Florian trained in fashion design at Studio Ber\u00e7ot in Paris and led the production of hand-woven cashmere and silk at Herm\u00e8s; Lisa, an entrepreneur with a deep knowledge of Himalayan craft, completed the work from the other shore. Partners inside and outside the studio, they divide their lives between France and Nepal.<\/p>\n
For them, each rug is a unique piece, conceived as an object with a form of its own. The motifs are drawn with precision \u2014 long lines, singular geometries, contours that trace the very perimeter of the piece \u2014 and dressed in deliberately unexpected chromatic palettes, where an apparently discordant tone resolves the composition. The result has a graphic quality: the rug rewrites the floor and turns it into an active part of the space.<\/p>\n
The execution follows the Tibetan hand-knotting method, at a density of 190,000 knots per square metre. Tibetan wool, prized for its natural lanolin, allows the piece to age well; Chinese silk adds sheen and durability.
