Tere Pensel was born in the province of Buenos Aires and trained as a graphic designer at Universidad Kennedy, a visual background that now runs alongside her ceramic practice, which she developed through her studies at the Instituto Municipal de Cer\u00e1mica de Avellaneda Emilio Villafa\u00f1e (2023\u2013). That dual formation \u2014 the eye that composes and the hands that shape \u2014 defines the territory in which she works.<\/p>\n
Her relationship with material began before art itself. It was her grandmother who taught her to knit, and in that precise, domestic gesture she found an early lesson in manual skill as a language of its own. Clay came later, drawn in by that prior bond with nature and animals, almost as the logical consequence of a connection that already existed. The medium has changed; the need to communicate has not.<\/p>\n
Her ceramic practice is deeply rooted in the legacy of the indigenous potters who worked American clay long before colonisation. Pensel reclaims them with humility and rigour, incorporating their techniques and their spiritual relationship with the earth as a point of departure. In the studio, the work moves in a balance between intuition and research; the results are the product of months of deliberate investigation into chemistry and technique.<\/p>\n
That rigour is made visible in her series. In Nido<\/em>, she mends the cracks and fractures of clay \u2014 a hard, rough material \u2014 by weaving fine, delicate natural fibres through them: a physical act of repair that is also a symbolic one. In Tapestry<\/em>, she builds visual narratives from modular units of barely 1\u00d71 cm, mosaics whose full form only emerges with distance. Working across scales, from the minute to the monumental, is for Pensel a deliberate exercise, one that asks the mind to constantly recalibrate its perceptual register.<\/p>\n Alongside her ceramic practice, she works as a video editor and product photographer, and maintains her own creative channel under the name @terepensel<\/em>. Image and volume, surface and texture coexist in a professional profile that moves between media with ease.
