The Czech craftsmen of Janštejn Glassworks have been the undisputed masters of glassblowing for more than 200 years.

Janštejn Glassworks specialises in the manufacture of lighting glass, following a tradition that began more than 200 years ago. The art of master glassmakers at Janštejn Glassworks dates back to 1809, making the factory one of the oldest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Approximately 20% of the glass blown at Janštejn Glassworks is destined for the Brokis brand products, and the rest for customers all over the world. Janštejn Glassworks is characterised by a high level of craftsmanship, combined with extraordinarily large formats of hand-blown glass. It has its own grinding, polishing and matting lines, as well as water jetting.

In 2020, Janštejn Glass Group s.r.o. (JGG) was founded, marking a new direction in the evolution of its constituent companies: Janštejn Glassworks, Brokis, Brokisglass, Brokis Solutions and Syrovátka.

Janštejn Glass Group is located in the centre of the Czech Republic, in the town of Janštejn, about 140 kilometres southeast of Prague. The heart of the group is the historic Bohemian glassworks Janštejn Glassworks. The group was created in order to simplify and rationalise the glassworks business activities, but it also includes other companies in the glass industry.

Brokis

The Czech lighting brand Brokis is a synonym for exclusive design, high quality and the extraordinary craftsmanship of Bohemian master glassmakers.

Designed by renowned Czech and international designers, the brand’s lighting collections have gained international recognition and received numerous awards at prestigious national and international design competitions.

Brokis combines hand-blown glass with other refined materials, such as wood and hand-pressed metal, in bold lighting compositions that push the boundaries of contemporary design. The Brokis portfolio includes modern functional luminaires, decorative objects and unique lighting solutions for architects and interior designers. With its own large capacity glass factory Brokis has the freedom to experiment and develop innovative materials, techniques and technologies as well as to design and implement tailor-made lighting solutions. Brokis was founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Jan Rabell.

Brokisglass

Brokisglass is the result of the eco-friendly practices of Janštejn Glassworks and Brokis, whose collaboration has resulted in a unique new material made from glass fragments. In the manufacture of lighting glass, up to 30% of each hand-blown piece is discarded. The main motivation for creating and developing the Brokisglass company was the need to change the conventional perception of glass fragments as waste, which in the past were simply carted to landfill where they were a burden on the environment and had a negative impact on the surrounding landscape. This innovative material brings a new dimension and aesthetic to glass, and its unique properties make it an excellent choice in architecture, construction, interior and product design.
