In this house designed by Fragments, green permeates the built mass, through the introduction of canopies that highlight and deconstruct the main volume. The strong texture of materials such as stone and wood, in dialogue with the soft materiality of the white stuccoed planes and burnished cement, create an object that lives and asserts itself through contrasts.
Each façade describes one side, with the north façade being the first to be uncovered. Built into the ground and partly semi-buried, it has a more contained volumetry.
At the rear, large glazed planes manage the relationship with the exterior, bringing the garden and its surroundings into the house.
The house is built on two floors, with the lower level consisting mainly of the social areas. A sequence of lounges and dining rooms, the result of different framings with the terrain and solar exposure, create spaces of greater or lesser seclusion.
To level the social area of the house with the garden, an intermediate access level was created, incorporating the house into the natural slope of the land. The master suite is also located on this level. Located in a more private area, it is separated from the rest of the house by a patio, giving privacy to those who use it.
The upper wing, facing south, has four suites with balconies overlooking the garden and pool.
The ground floor has a green roof, in a gesture that replicates the existing vegetation outside for the rooms, diluting the volume in nature.
The generously sized outdoor area frames the swimming pool and allows passage and connection with the natural terrain.
Inside, the play of contrasts takes on new life, where oblique planes create moments of interest and natural and artificial light emerges as a modelling element. The materiality complements and translates that of the exterior, with the presence of wood and concrete.

Fragmentos
Fragmentos began as a collective of four architects, Duarte Pinto-Coelho, Marcus Cerdeira, Miguel Martins Santos and Pedro Silva Lopes, and is now a studio with more than 60 collaborators, including architects, engineers, designers and other professionals who, although not directly involved in production, are fundamental to the studio’s success. Over almost three decades, Fragmentos has developed ambitious and challenging projects in various parts of the country, from residential buildings to urban planning.
They work collaboratively, establishing cross-cutting teams across services, businesses and geographies. Their philosophy is underpinned by the strength of the relationships they build, both in the public and private sectors, and also by their commitment to balancing a people-centred approach with sustainability, while keeping pace with technological progress.
