The integral reform carried out by the Sevillian studio CM4 Arquitectos of a simple house located in a pine forest on the coast of Cadiz has completely transformed it. It has been reborn as the ideal refuge for its owners to enjoy every day of the year, but especially on the hottest days of the year in this corner of Andalusia.
The CM4 Arquitectos studio came across a house with a very elementary architecture, which had been built by means of self-building. For this reason, the first step of the integral reform was to solve the structural deficiencies and damp of the original building.
CM4 Arquitectos has integrated a home automation system for energy, lighting and air conditioning control into this 168 m2 house on a single floor, making it a sustainable and fully accessible home.
Inner-outer dialogue
On an aesthetic and functional level, special care has been taken to achieve a constant interior-exterior dialogue. A balanced and serene style has been chosen, essentially natural and minimalist, where pure lines and open spaces predominate. All the rooms are fresh and bright, avoiding excessive decorative details and with a very Mediterranean character. All rooms are airy, yet visually warm.
This pleasant atmosphere invites relaxation and peace of mind. The colour palette plays with cream tones, which contrast with the shades of natural materials such as bamboo and oiled oak wood, as well as with the black of the exterior woodwork and the green of the nature that surrounds the house.
The interior layout maintains the two main centrelines, which organise the main programme of the house: living room, lounge, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom. All the spaces have a direct link with the exterior; to achieve this, the folding or sliding windows that are concealed in the walls play an essential role.
The garden surrounds the house and alternates sunny areas with lawns, allowing the various porches covered with wooden and bamboo pergolas to be used all year round. The barbecue follows the architecture of the house to the letter, blending in discreetly. In the night area, the windows of the bedrooms open onto a backyard, which offers direct contact with the outdoors and nature in a much more intimate atmosphere.
In short, a family home to enjoy all year round, which becomes a desired refuge of coolness in the hottest days of the summer.
