Founded in Vienna in 1995 by Austrian designers Martin Bergmann (b. 1963, Lienz), Gernot Bohmann (b. 1968, Krieglach) and Harald Gründl (b. 1967, Vienna), EOOS is an internationally acclaimed design studio known for its conceptual depth and material sensitivity. The trio met while studying industrial design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and, shortly after graduating, decided to establish their own studio.
EOOS specialises in furniture and product design, operating at the premium end of the market. Their clients include leading international brands such as Carl Hansen & Søn, bulthaup, Herman Miller, Keilhauer and Walter Knoll. In the field of product design, they have collaborated with companies such as Alessi, Lamy, Laufen, Zumtobel and Nuki. Since 2010, the studio has also developed a strong focus on social design, particularly in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the Global South, partnering with institutions like the Gates Foundation and the International Red Cross.
At the heart of EOOS’s design philosophy is what they call “poetic analysis”: a methodology that draws on images, rituals and myths as fertile ground for new design narratives. This approach allows them to question the meaning and function of design itself, opening the door to responses that are both unique and deeply resonant.
Over the course of its career, EOOS has received more than 130 international design awards, including the prestigious Compasso d’Oro. The studio has represented Austria at major events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale (2016) and the Milan Triennale (2019), and has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna in both 2015 and 2019.
