Platero, a pouf and side table designed by Dsignio for esPattio, where childhood memories meet bold, innovative design

The designers of Dsignio, the studio that created this original seat published by the esPattio brand, comment that Platero is “movement, freedom and play ” and offers many possibilities.

“Platero takes us back to childhood, to moments full of creativity and fun. We have brought these memories together to shape a new seating concept. We want to foster a positive work environment by creating dynamic, creative and vibrant spaces in which to unleash the imagination. Its curved base makes it easy to swing and change position. It has a table on which you can write, use your laptop, use it as a lectern… But the most important thing is not what it allows you to do, but how you feel when you use it” say the designers at Dsignio.

Childhood at the origin of design

The inspiration behind Platero “comes from childhood, from moments of fun. Sometimes, as adults, it helps to look back and remember when we were children because those moments can bring us a lot in the present” say the designers.

The innovation behind the design of Platero comes from a reflection by Dsignio on the state of workspaces. According to the designers, “a workspace doesn’t have to be a boring place. Platero is an object that allows us to interact with it constantly, we can rock, relax, have fun, concentrate and use it for different purposes, it is really versatile“.

The Andalusian brand esPattio, publisher of this product, offers its entire chromatic range of fabrics. Atlántico, Doñana, Gorafe, Maceta… There is plenty to choose from. For Dsignio, Platero “deserves to be accentuated with its upholstery, using colours that contrast with its beech wood with red, green or blue colours“.

Platero is very versatile and easily transportable, it does not need its own space, it can be used in different spaces, and that is one of its great values.

Technical characteristics

Puff. Upholstered body, composed of a skeleton that combines mdf boards with pine slat reinforcements, all covered in high density polyurethane foam and then upholstered.

Base. Curved base, made from 12 mm thick beech plywood, which gives the whole the geometry that gives it its dynamism. The base is covered with a non-woven textile polyester felt to ensure its durability and the protection of the floor material.

The base is topped by a practical side surface as a table.

Handle option. It can include a leather handle from Ubrique.

Dsignio

Dsignio is a studio that designs products full of ingenuity, feeling and passion. They are products with stories to tell. They transport you to another world, evoke fond memories or invite you to have fun. In short, they design objects that make you feel good and that is what motivates them in their daily work. They say: “It all starts with listening, observing, talking and understanding. And in between, we chat, laugh and share experiences. We’ve been doing it since 2002“.

Dsignio, based in Madrid, was founded in 2002 by Alberto Bejerano and Patxi Cotarelo, both technical engineers in industrial design and masters in interior design. Before creating Dsignio they were both gaining experience in international studios such as Lievore Altherr Molina and Benedito Design and also working alongside vehicle designer Francisco Podadera, at Punt Mobles and Lotus-Festina.

They are fortunate to work with European companies that sell their designs in over 100 countries and exhibit them regularly at trade fairs around the world. More than 1000 design blogs, along with specialised press and general media, have highlighted their projects. They are passionate about sharing this journey by giving lectures and master classes at universities in Spain, Japan and Mexico.

Over the years, Dsignio has received several awards, including three nominations for best design of the year in Spain at the Delta Awards, nominated for best young designer of the year by Elle Decor magazine, winners of Decotech, Smoking Chair Design or the TTA Awards, a prize awarded in England for the best wall cladding design of the year.
