Alfredo Häberli can be defined as the most optimistic and happy designer on the international scene. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1964. He moved to Switzerland in 1977 and graduated in 1991 with distinction in Industrial Design at Höhere Schule für Gestaltung in Zurich. He is now a renowned designer based in Zurich and works for some of the leading companies in the international design industry, including Alias, BD Barcelona, Andreu World, BMW, Camper, FSB, Georg Jensen, Iittala, Kvadrat, Luceplan, Moroso, Schiffini and Vitra.
Rigorous and poetic are two qualities that combine in Alfredo Häberli’s work, to which we must add a pinch of humour, a little emotion and plenty of rationality. It is a difficult cocktail to balance; only an experienced designer like him, who works on each of his projects with the care of a craftsman, can use these ingredients in the right doses, without overdoing it or falling short. He is a professional who absolutely masters his craft.
He manages to combine tradition with innovation, joy and energy in his designs and his work is strongly influenced by his early childhood in Argentina, as well as by his curiosity and his studies of everyday life. The result is works of great expressiveness and emotion.
Alfredo Häberli’s most extensive project to date, the 25hours Hotel Zurich West, opened in November 2012. He was responsible for the overall interior design and designed more than 60 products for the hotel.
