Beatriz Portabella

Graduated in Architecture from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona, UPC, in 2004. She has been a member of the Col·legi Oficial d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) since 2005. Born in Barcelona, Beatriz Portabella studied architecture and specialized in Landscape Design. She collaborated for over five years with the studios of Jordi Garcés and Beth Figueras. In 2006, she joined the AMB (Barcelona Metropolitan Area) team, working on public space projects. In 2007, she founded her own studio, Bea Portabella Arquitectura, in Barcelona, developing new construction and renovation projects.

“Our work must rise above fashions and trends; it is nourished by the classics and by tradition. In an increasingly fleeting moment, what we’ve learned from our traditions becomes even more important and plays a fundamental role,” she explains.

Among the countless definitions of architecture, she chooses those that best reflect her vision and inspire her most: “Architecture is the art of organizing space” – Auguste Perret. “Modern architecture does not mean the use of new materials, but using existing ones in a more human way” – Alvar Aalto. “If man is ignored, architecture is unnecessary” – Álvaro Siza. “Architecture is only considered complete with the intervention of the human being who experiences it” – Tadao Ando
