Daniel Ibáñez

Daniel Ibáñez, architect and PhD graduate from Harvard Graduate School of Design, has focused his research on natural materials—particularly timber—and on circular models of urban production. He is currently director of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. His research centers on the use of biogenic and renewable materials in architecture, while his professional practice is dedicated to the design and development of ecological buildings.

He also serves as a senior consultant to the World Bank, advising governments and international institutions on architecture and industrialized timber-based urbanism.

Director of the Master in Mass Timber Design at IAAC and of the Global Mass Timber platform, his work connects architectural design with industrial ecology and regenerative urbanism. His approach combines academic rigor with project-based innovation, exploring how architecture can function as an interface between natural systems and urban environments.

Together with Vicente Guallart, he leads Urbanitree as an open and collaborative structure, capable of imagining urban futures where architecture becomes a support for life.
