“Although it was clear to me from my childhood that the plastic arts were what I liked most, when I had to choose my university education, I didn’t go for them, probably due to a lack of confidence in myself and the insecurity of artistic activity. My choice was diametrically opposed. I chose the field of urban planning influided by a clear family presence in the field of architecture.
In a moment of questioning and professional boredom, I decided to make a change and bet on that path that one day I did not dare to undertake. So I started creating a professional firma to design what I call composition with materials. With a textile material, the fieltro-feltina, which offers me a chromatic palette for the combination of colour and facilitates an orderly design in the proportions. A material that places me on a very fine line between art and craftsmanship.
In my designs I try to transmit moments of calm and tranquillity, I look for a timeless, eclectic style, which allows me to use geometry and colour with moderation. My aesthetic is minimalist, I make the phrase “less is more” by Mies van der Rohe, my almost vital guide. I believe that there must be a balance between design and colour, both must coexist on an equal footing.
My inspiration comes almost always from architecture, my references, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Javier Carvajal, Rafael de la Hoz, Louis I.Kahn, Oscar Niemeyer, among others. And as for colour, I really look at how interior designers use it in their spaces, combining it with furniture, carpets and textile accessories.
I have been lucky enough to work on hotel interior design projects such as the Only You Hotel in Malaga, the Four Season Hotel Madrid and with various interior design studios such as Luisa Olazábal, Erico Navazo, Galán-Sobrini, Proyecto Singular, Ventura estudio, Miguel Valcárcel, Tristán Domecq” Mónica tells us.
