Embrace Outdoor: the new collection by EOOS Design for Carl Hansen & Søn

Since their first collaboration in 2015, EOOS Design has brought a contemporary vision to the legacy of Carl Hansen & Søn. The Embrace Outdoor series continues this partnership, extending the comfort and aesthetics of indoor furniture to open-air settings—without losing the Scandinavian design essence that defines the brand.

The collection is built around untreated FSC™-certified teak, a natural wood that develops a distinctive silvery patina over time. The structures—such as the E022 dining table and the E008 chair—combine the solidity of teak with stainless steel accents, striking a balance between robustness and visual lightness. The sofa backs feature a handcrafted flat rope weave that adds both texture and comfort.

Modularity and personalisation

The Embrace Outdoor modular sofa includes seven components that allow for personalised configurations, adapting to different spaces and needs. The cushions, available in a range of earthy tones inspired by the Scandinavian landscape, are designed to withstand the elements while preserving their comfort and elegance.

EOOS Design

EOOS is an international design studio based in Vienna, founded in 1995 by Austrian designers Martin Bergmann (1963, Lienz), Gernot Bohmann (1968, Krieglach) and Harald Gründl (1967, Vienna). The three met while studying industrial design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and after graduating, decided to launch their own studio.

EOOS specialises in furniture and product design for the premium segment, working with brands such as Carl Hansen & Søn, bulthaup, Herman Miller, Keilhauer and Walter Knoll. In the field of product design, their clients have included Alessi, Lamy, Laufen, Zumtobel and Nuki. Since 2010, the studio has also focused on social design, particularly in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects in the Global South, collaborating with organisations such as the Gates Foundation and the International Red Cross.

EOOS approaches design through what they call “poetic analysis,” a method that explores images, rituals and myths as a foundation for new creations. This philosophy allows them to question the meaning and function of design, resulting in unique and insightful responses.

Over the course of their career, EOOS has received more than 130 international design awards, including the prestigious Compasso d’Oro. They have represented Austria at major events such as the Venice Architecture Biennale (2016) and the Milan Design Triennale (2019). The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna dedicated solo exhibitions to the studio in 2015 and 2019.
