Mediterranean light and the silence of stone shape Casa Jacaranda, a contemporary architecture designed by Ramón Esteve

For those who believe that architecture must serve the spirit as much as function, Casa Jacaranda stands as a contemporary model: innovative, committed to its surroundings, sensitive, and profoundly human.

Casa Jacaranda rises on a generous plot, with a clear geometry and favorable topography—conditions that Ramón Esteve orchestrates with delicacy so that architecture responds to the landscape. At first, it appears as a robust, stony, almost ancestral container, safeguarding within it a fluid, luminous interior space, nuanced by the shifting play of light. This opposition between volume and void becomes an architectural poem.

The thick, expressive stone walls offer cadence and permanence; cantilevers extend horizons, define shadows, and lighten mass with silence. By contrast, the lighter horizontals—white concrete, lacquered steel, planes that seem to float—enter into dialogue with the heavy force of stone, infusing it with contained lightness and dynamism.

Volumetry and stony topography

The boxes composing the dwelling slide over one another, staggering heights, generating voids and light play. Beyond organizing space, Esteve sculpts an artificial topography that simultaneously settles into and converses with the landscape. The separation between central volumes creates a courtyard that articulates the floor plan: an open heart allowing cross-views, ventilation, and grazing light.

The garden becomes backdrop, mirror, and atmosphere. The outdoor pool projects greenery and sky, multiplying them, refreshing the air with its mirrored surface. Nature seeps into every corner: as visual backdrop, as sensory presence, offering an atmosphere of calm.

Interior spaces

Crossing the large cantilevered entrance, the first sensation is scale: the sculpture of the central core—stair and lift—that presides over the space, demanding attention, inviting the gaze. The day areas flow, succeeding one another without rigid barriers, maintaining visual continuity with one another, with the garden, and with the light.

Inside, light filters across pale woods, with dark-toned finishes that lend nuance, relief, and discreet elegance. Textures that caress, surfaces that catch and reflect. The vertical stone elements are felt as protective walls; the white horizontals bring silence and clarity; their combination allows the house to breathe, for shadow to become an ally, for light to find its pauses.

Bedrooms rise on the upper floor: secluded, delicate, protected by the stony mass, yet open to the landscape. A study crowns the top level—the Miramar floor—acting as a belvedere: a point of contemplation and meditation. From here, inhabitants observe, dream, breathe from above.

The indoor pool—an intimate liquid presence—joins the day areas, adding freshness, reflection, and water.

Casa Jacaranda is, in its purest form, the materialization of architectural poetry: robust, tender, and wise. It is a refuge of essentials, a sum of contrasts, a dance between exterior and interior, between light and shadow. Ramón Esteve proves himself a master of architecture, creating spaces with soul.

Ramón Esteve, creator of design ecosystems

Ramón Esteve is a singular architect, a craftsman of space, a creator of atmospheres, a witness to the dialogue that occurs between what is built and what is lived. He founded Ramón Esteve Estudio in 1991 with a certainty that continues to guide him today: architecture and design form a single vision, a unity that transcends disciplines, because both are arts of experience.

For Esteve, design is not an isolated task—it is a way of life. From his earliest projects to the most recent, he has maintained the conviction that space, object, and architecture must be understood as complete ecosystems: where every element relates, nourishes, and complements the others. The studio’s motto—“places where one longs to live”—reveals this intimate purpose: that each work should not only fulfill its function, but awaken desire, emotion, belonging. That the places he signs be refuge, dialogue, memory.

Principles shaping his design

The studio has a clear DNA, marked by values that form its backbone:
Harmony: balance between volumes, between empty and full, between light and shadow. Serenity: spaces that breathe, interior silences that allow living without visual or emotional noise. Timelessness: design that resists trends, architecture that ages with dignity. Contextualization: each work born of its place, its light, its landscape, its tradition—but without paralyzing nostalgia. Living the present with respect for the past and an eye to the future.

Ramón Esteve Estudio is also characterized by the pursuit of uniqueness, creativity, functional and technical excellence, responsible economic management, and an interest in aesthetics not as luxury, but as a necessity for living well.

Trajectory and scope

Ramón Esteve’s work spans a wide spectrum, extending beyond the purely residential: Restoration of historic and heritage buildings: bridging traces of the past with the demands of the present. Public projects of cultural and healthcare character: spaces that must address collective well-being, making social care tangible. Exclusive single-family homes: clearly defining what today is understood as contemporary Mediterranean residential architecture. Product design and art direction with national and international brands: furniture, objects, details that extend architecture into the object, allowing each everyday gesture to be imbued with design.

The art of creating a team

What distinguishes Ramón Esteve is his ability to weave a large and diverse team, capable of handling highly complex projects without losing coherence or identity. His studio is a choral sum of talents, where architects, designers, interior designers, and managers converge in a structure both flexible and robust. His ability to lead and inspire his team—fostering autonomy and confidence—has turned Ramón Esteve Estudio into one of the most recognized architecture and design firms in Spain and abroad.

In this human ecosystem, the same philosophy that guides his projects can be perceived: integration, balance, harmony. A team that thinks and creates as one, where authorship is understood as collective effort, and where each member contributes individuality to shape a greater whole.

Commitment and sustainability

For Ramón Esteve, sustainability means responsibility: toward the environment, materials, climate, permanence. His approach to projects reflects respect for what already exists—landscape, topography, light, vegetation. He combines technical innovation with minimal impact, efficiency in management, and generosity toward the user, the community, the experience of inhabiting.

Pedagogy and transmission of knowledge

Ramón Esteve’s architecture is not limited to the walls he builds; it also extends into the realm of teaching. As a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València, he has shared with generations of students his holistic vision of architecture and design. From the classroom, Esteve offers not only theory but a way of understanding the world, a pedagogy that inspires students to look beyond the object and conceive space as an integral experience. His teaching reflects his commitment to the future of the discipline, to transmitting knowledge that combines technical rigor with poetic sensitivity.

The architectural biography of Ramón Esteve is a living testimony to how one can design from the heart—with intellectual rigor, plastic sensitivity, and social conscience. The legacy he builds is not only in walls and objects, but in the atmosphere he leaves behind, in the spaces where one longs to live, in the inspiration he offers to new generations.
