Cariño: a photographic project by Paco Marín reflecting his relationship with Galicia

Galicia is one of those places where the landscape seems to carry its own memory, where every return renews an intimate bond with the land. The sea, the wind, the terrain shape here an emotional geography that many recognise even before they fully understand it.

Photographer Paco Marín knows that feeling well. He first discovered this territory more than a decade ago, and since then he has never stopped coming back. His photographic project Cariño arises from this persistent relationship with a place that, over the years, has ceased to be merely a setting and has become a territory of belonging.

Those of us who carry Galicia in our hearts understand that connection. Looking at these beautiful images transports us to a land fertile in emotions, a place we always long to return to.
Thank you, Paco, for these photographs and for this text about your Galician journey, which breathes emotion in every line. Andrés Moratinos

Cariño: a deep affection for someone or something.
In this case, for a place.

A house beside a lighthouse. November in Galicia. The wind striking the windows and the sea roaring as if it were its natural state. Because here, it is.

In the car, McEnroe plays on a loop. “Yo remaré, siempre hacia ti…” The voice of Ricardo Lezón accompanies the journey while the road merges with the landscape.

This coast has character. Heather and pines blending with sand and rock. Small harbours sheltered from the storms. Villages where life moves to a different rhythm.

The plan is simple: to be.
To walk, to sense, and to contemplate what may happen in each place.

Sometimes intuition is rewarded; other times the landscape decides to give nothing. That, too, is part of the game.

I discovered this land ten years ago and since then I have never stopped returning. A bond that renews itself every time I come back.” Paco Marín
