Recipient of the Casa Decor 2025 Honorary Award, Sandra Tarruella is one of the leading figures in contemporary Spanish interior design. With over 150 projects to her name and a unique sensitivity to light, materials, and context, her work transforms spaces into livable experiences with a distinct identity.
Born in Barcelona in 1961, Tarruella studied at the DIAC School and Llotja, and began her career in 1984 with the Tragaluz Group, designing the restaurant El Mordisco. Since then, her studio—founded in 1992—has become a benchmark in interior design for hospitality, restaurants, retail, and office spaces. Her signature style is defined by attention to detail, collaboration with artisans, and an unwavering contemporary outlook.
A portfolio that speaks for itself
Among her most recent projects are: Hotel Sabàtic in Sitges—a tribute to European vacation style, created with Olga Pajares and awarded at the Roca Hotel Awards 2024; Brutus Restaurant in Palma—brutalism reinterpreted with elegance and texture, winner of the Monocle Design Awards 2023; Gran Café Santander—a reimagining of a Madrid classic using noble materials and a sophisticated ambiance; the Roca brothers’ Confitería in Girona—a versatile, dynamic, and colorful design that maximizes a 25 m² space; The Lobster Club in Mallorca—with a nautical aesthetic and refined materials such as iroko wood and polished steel; and the Open Spa at Ibiza Gran Hotel—an atmosphere of calm and elegance through the exquisite use of stone, wood, and clay. These join a long list of landmark projects such as El Celler de Can Roca, Hotel Omm, Grand Hotel Central, and Hotel Eme in Seville, among many others.
Tarruella’s career has been recognized with awards such as the Condé Nast Awards, the Interior Design Best of Year Awards, and the Royal Academy of Gastronomy Prize. Her work is acclaimed for its ability to create unique atmospheres where design always serves the experience.
