Elena Navarro redefines the essence of Menorca through interior design

Inspired by the Mediterranean light and the sober character of local architecture, Elena Navarro transforms a house designed by the architects at Nomo Studio into a warm, natural space deeply connected to its surroundings. Her studio, Trestrazos, signs off on a minimalist and welcoming interior design, where every detail invites one to live slowly and mindfully.

Located on the northern coast of Menorca, this 275-square-metre house is spread over two floors and has been conceived as a place to enjoy summer to the fullest—yet also as a haven of calm and beauty throughout the year. Designed by Barcelona-based Nomo Studio, the project stands out for its contemporary volumes, hexagonal geometries and integration with the natural surroundings, enhanced by the landscaping of Ruth Baygual.

The interior design by Elena Navarro is grounded in a serene vision of Mediterranean style: noble materials, natural tones and great attention to detail. Clay finishes, applied to both walls and ceilings, envelop the interior in a soft, warm texture that responds to the shifting light and the island’s humid, windswept climate. Each room opens to the sea and landscape, asserting its own character without breaking the aesthetic harmony.

First floor

On the first floor, a glass-enclosed dining room shelters from the tramontane wind and offers views to both the north and south. Built-in benches, linen fabrics, handcrafted lamps and a large wooden table create a space where tradition and contemporary spirit coexist. The kitchen, anchored by a central island, combines terrazzo, ceramic and wood to ensure functionality without compromising on design. From here, one enters the living room—conceived as an intimate, cosy nook—with a palette of greens and greys, and artworks by Ana Gómez Jaraíz and Coohuco Studio that evoke the power of the sea.

The en-suite bedroom on this floor is defined by a wooden structure, neutral finishes and an integrated bathroom, where microcement and dark bronze taps create an elegant, timeless atmosphere. A guest toilet completes this level.

Ground floor

The ground floor, designed for hosting, features three bedrooms—two singles and one en-suite. All are connected to the outside through porches of iron and reed that filter the light and cool the air. The large main porch, with bespoke furniture and Mallorcan fabrics, becomes the heart of long summer evenings. The outdoor kitchen and iroko furniture reinforce the sense of continuity between inside and outside—so intrinsic to the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Each room maintains a balance between simplicity and character, with versatile solutions such as beds that convert into bunk beds, built-in washbasins, custom-made furniture and carefully designed lighting. The connection with the surrounding environment, both physical and emotional, is the guiding thread of a project that avoids the superfluous and embraces a natural, enduring and relatable beauty.

Elena Navarro

Founder of the studio Trestrazos in 2015, designer Elena Navarro has built a distinctive career from Barcelona, where she creates spaces with both emotional resonance and aesthetic purpose. Her method is structured around three essential phases—active listening, creative development and site supervision—ensuring a response that is both personal and precise for each client.

At Trestrazos, each project begins with respect for its context and unfolds through a sensitive, technical and poetic gaze. From homes to hotels, including ephemeral events, her goal is to transform the everyday into an experience. “Three strokes are enough to change everything,” says the designer, and in this house in Menorca, she proves it with an intervention that blends local identity, craftsmanship and contemporaneity with a sober and luminous language.
