In this Los Angeles residence, Tancred Vilucchi celebrates the serene and elegant Californian lifestyle

In the coveted, light-filled family neighborhood of Mar Vista, in Los Angeles, just above vibrant Venice and only minutes from the ocean, Tancred Vilucchi has brought to life a project that marks a turning point in his career. Accustomed to staging opulence and exuberance, the designer faced here the challenge of creating a warm and serene home, where elegance is measured in silences, in organic textures, and in the subtlety of light.

The contemporary-style house, with 315 square meters distributed over two floors, welcomes a young Los Angeles family: a couple with two small children. In this domestic context, Vilucchi has managed to translate the Californian lifestyle into practical, comfortable spaces, without renouncing the sophistication that defines his signature.

On the main floor, the large open space —bringing together living, dining, and kitchen— extends towards a backyard presided over by a young tree and the warmth of an outdoor fireplace. Upstairs, the children’s bedrooms, the office, and the main suite prolong family life towards a horizon of calm, thanks to sliding doors that dissolve the boundaries between interior and landscape.

The greatest challenge for Vilucchi was to design “against himself.” While in recent projects monumental scale and maximalism took center stage, here the key has been serenity. Roman clay on the walls, Moroccan zellige, blackened brass fixtures, wood, concrete, and glass converse with kilim rugs, linen and leather upholstery, and exotic plants that bring freshness to the ensemble. The palette, woven with earthy tones, sunlit yellows, and black accents, pays tribute to the Californian landscape and its timeless character.

Inspired by beaches and mountains, by the outdoor life that defines Los Angeles culture, Vilucchi creates a refuge where contemporaneity merges with the organic. The result is an elegant and eclectic interior, designed to accompany the daily life of this family, with a quiet and understated beauty.

“I wanted to challenge myself and, above all, make my clients happy,” the designer confesses. And in this Mar Vista home, he succeeds, with a project that proves that luxury can also reside in serenity and in the precise measure of the essential.

The biography of Tancred Vilucchi is marked by a deep-rooted connection to Mediterranean memory and an openness to Californian modernity. Born into a family linked to the Italian Tuscany and the French Provence, he grew up among vineyards, olive groves, and landscapes bathed in the golden light of southern Europe. That childhood, surrounded by ancient stone, noble woods, and craftsmanship handed down from generation to generation, forged in him an aesthetic sensibility where matter and memory are inseparable.

His philosophy centers on creating homes where beauty, functionality, and cultural memory are woven into daily life.

He has completed numerous projects in different sectors and collaborated with high-end furniture manufacturers to create bespoke designs. His work has been featured in prestigious publications such as Vogue Living Australia, AD Spain, AD Italy, Casa Vogue Living, Harper’s Bazaar Interiors, ELLE Decoration, and Homes & Gardens UK.
