Jaime Beriestain brings us the raw beauty of Ibiza, through his own vision of light and material

At the entrance to the house, bare stone and wood welcome us into spaces where the material oozes meaning and the emotion of natural beauty is so evident that there is no room for ornamentation.

As soon as we step through the door of the house, the forceful presence of an enormous table made in Bali from local wood leaves us speechless, and at the same time invites us to touch it, to feel it. It is matter in its pure state, nature as the ultimate expression of beauty. Jaime Beriestain, who lives in the countryside because he loves nature and enjoys it, places it there, inside the house, so that the interior and exterior are a continuous whole in which to live, with the light and the earth of this island that move us, and surrounds it with his beautiful Albany chairs to share after-dinner conversations, get-togethers or evenings in the best company.

In this central space of the house we have the kitchen with its spectacular island and several relaxation areas with sofas upholstered in a very Ibizan white colour, coffee tables with organic shapes in the same colour and a jute rug providing a warm rustic style. And for nap lovers, a circular deybed designed with artist Casey McCafferty, who has also created other works in the house. “We wanted to create a space where, while one is cooking, another is preparing an aperitif, others are sitting and chatting…” says Jaime.

Night zone

In the night area, the three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms follow the same colour palette as the day area and the characteristic design of the house with black furniture, headboards, bedside tables and hanging lamps of exquisite design and floors covered with carpets with that special touch of jute.

On the porch, there is a dining table with a basalt stone top, to enjoy meals and evenings outside, and a relaxation area with armchairs and sofa from Ayodhya Trade and a beautiful coffee table, also in basalt stone, to enjoy the magnificent Ibizan climate.

The finishing touch to the house is a magnificent swimming pool with imperial green granite cladding and sun loungers by Creu Studio.

Jaime Beriestain

In 2000, after a decade of professional practice in his homeland, Jaime Beriestain (Santiago de Chile, 1969) moved to Barcelona to study a postgraduate degree in Interior Design at the BAU School of Design, and decided to stay. In 2002, he founded the Jaime Beriestain studio and since then, with his team of professionals, they have been working on important national and international interior design projects.

In 2010, he opened a showroom in the centre of Barcelona, near Gaudí’s La Pedrera building, displaying a selection of restored mid-20th century furniture, books and other decorative products.

With the opening of his Concept Store and Café in 2013, Jaime Beriestain embarked on the business of hospitality. His café is featured in magazines such as Vogue, Côté Sud, Elle, Wall Street Journal, Forbes and Vanity Fair.

Jaime Beriestain Studio has an extensive portfolio of major luxury hotels, private residences, restaurants and retail projects. Clients include leading hotel chains such as Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Waldorf Astoria and Hilton. The approach to his work starts with research into the specific nature of each project to create a design response tailored to the aspirations of each client, the characteristics of the site and the detailed requirements of the future occupants.

Beriestain’s designs, which range from the period classicism of Barcelona’s Palace Hotel (formerly The Ritz) to the contemporary glamour of H10’s The One Hotel, bear witness to his extraordinary versatility. His studio was awarded Best Interior Design Studio 2016 by Architectural Digest magazine. In 2017, he designed the public areas of the Hotel Sofia in Barcelona, furnishing this iconic hotel with a renewed international identity. In the same year, he renovated an impressive Hotel Particulier Classé Historique in the historic centre of Geneva.

Jaime’s designs include a wide variety of objects: lamps, chairs, rugs, sunglasses, sandals, etc., and even his own recipes. He continues to work tirelessly with his passion for high quality design and a job well done.
