L’Atelier HA designs a stately home on the outskirts of Paris, in the middle of an idyllic tree-filled park.

Set in the heart of an idyllic tree-filled park on the outskirts of Paris, on a private estate in Marnes-la-Coquette, is this small Anglo-Norman inspired manor house, hidden behind an elegant half-timbered façade with a traditional porch, which the architectural duo of Atelier HA, Hugo Vince and Adèle Nourry have redesigned.

The biggest challenge for the designers was to transform the rustic and austere house into a cosy and functional home for a family with five children. “We had to respect the privacy of each of the family members while at the same time creating spaces that would allow them to live together” explain Hugo and Adèle. The house was dark and made up of five small, independent and adjoining rooms. Atelier HA knocked down all the walls on the ground floor to create a very large open space, which has become, together with the kitchen, the heart of the house.

An entrance gallery leads to a large living and dining room of more than 100 m2 with an extraordinary sculptural stone fireplace. “We love the kitchen, with its large concrete shelves and the play of mirrors that give the room a psychedelic perspective” say the interior designers.

The first floor is divided into four bedrooms, including an elegant master suite and bathrooms. Downstairs, in the basement, there is a cosy wood-panelled office and a private cinema room.

The office, a working retreat for a lawyer who can work late into the night, is a quiet space inspired by traditional English and Scandinavian design. “We wanted to respect the history and style of this house and, at the same time, bring a modern and design touch without losing a warm atmosphere. It is very important to us that the spaces are very comfortable, even if they are larges” say Adèle and Hugo.

Aletier HA

Adèle Nourry and Hugo Vince are the founders of Atelier HA. They say that “it was at the Camondo school that we came up with the idea of creating our own studio, to be free to realise our own ideas. We wanted to give free rein to our creativity and, after examining several Parisian architecture studios, we decided to create Atelier HA. We have a global approach to projects, but we are also sensitive to detail, and we attach particular importance to the soul of the place. We design special worlds, both private and public“.
