Studio Bonarchi renews the design of the Anandes Mykonos hotel, composing spaces with a strong visual impact.

Situated on the highest point of the fascinating island of Mykonos, overlooking its dazzling white houses and the breathtaking Aegean Sea, the Anandes Hotel arrives with high hopes of defining the new chic style of the Cyclades by interior designer Vangelis Bonios and his Studio Bonarchi.

Egyptian businessman Karim El Chiaty, the current owner of the hotel, explains his relationship with Mykonos “My family has been holidaying on Mykonos since the 1970s. For me this island has always been a holiday destination“. Chiaty wanted the hotel to be luxurious and elegant, but discreet,”a love letter to the Mykonos of the mid-20th century, the Mykonos that attracted the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon and Jackie O’Nasis” he says.

In this project, Studio Bonarchi views the island’s rich traditional elements through a contemporary and aesthetic lens, blending them harmoniously with avant-garde pieces of contemporary design. Organic forms dressed in luminous white contrasted with authentic natural materials in dark tones compose spaces of strong visual impact.

The custom-made furniture, inspired by the iconic Greek elements of the past, together with the exquisite sculptural lighting elements, create a sense of uniqueness for the visitor to Anandes.

Upon entering the hotel, guests are greeted by custom chandeliers by French sculptor and artist Philippe Antonioz, and the lobby slowly unfolds onto the terrace to reveal the expansive ocean view that truly sets Anandes apart. The hotel features custom artwork by artists such as Richard Serra and Thomas Houseago, which complements its sophisticated Cycladic aesthetic.

At the fireplace in the foyer, the two organically shaped Pierre Augustin Rose sofas are placed next to the handmade Demeter coffee table created by the famous French duo Gilles et Boissier, while the Beaune lamp by Thierry Lemaire completes the synthesis.

The lighting fixtures play a leading role in the aesthetics of the interiors. As you enter the foyer, Eric Schmidt’s Fingi pendant lamp rises like a sculpture above the customised reception desk.

The rooms are dominated by authentic stone, embossed pine, linen fabrics and dark patina bronze details. This abundant focus forges a palette of contrasts in a creative dialogue with the views of the sea and Mykonos Town.

Flashes of mid-century design, meticulously placed in the interiors, are a nod to the jet set of the past and the allure of their cosmopolitan lifestyle, which continues to fascinate globetrotters of this era.

Vangelis Bonios. Studio Bonarchi

Vangelis Bonios is a naturally curious interior designer, who seeks harmony and balance at every stage of his research, in every detail of his work. He holds a master’s degree in interior design which he obtained together with Pr. Patricia Viel, co-founder of “Antonio Citterio and Partners” in Milan. This appreciated meeting gave Vangelis, at an early stage of his studies, the opportunity to get to know high-end projects (such as Bulgari hotels and Valentino boutiques) from the point of view of the creator. Noble materials and simple, pure lines captured his attention from the very beginning of his work. During his fifteen years of collaboration with “Zege Architects” as an interior designer, he was involved in large-scale projects such as “The Met Hotel”, a member of Design Hotels, and “Astir Palace Hotel”, along with other demanding projects such as yacht interiors and private residences.

In creating Studio Bonarchi, a boutique agency based on creativity, ideas and beliefs that reflect his personal vision of aesthetics, Vangelis Bonios works with a team of young designers and experienced local craftsmen to design bespoke interiors with a strong visual impact. Their projects, whether on the scale of a residence, a restaurant or a hotel, arouse emotions and stand out by showing respect for context and tradition.
