Sebastián’s passion for his craft has been nurtured since childhood in his hometown of Fuentes de Andalucía (Sevilla). In its streets, he has been able to enjoy the characteristic brick facades that adorn its houses.

Sebastián began his training in the craft under the guidance of his father, José Pérez Gamero, locally known as “el Sillero.” This training, grounded in daily hands-on practice, allowed him to acquire the necessary skills to undertake a wide variety of masonry work. Among these, he was particularly drawn to those related to the art of carving clay bricks. He discovered his artistic potential and became passionate about a craft in which he has specialized over the years.

In our work, everything is done manually, and that’s the beautiful part of the craft. For me, this isn’t work; it’s enjoyment. In this trade, we use brick, chisel, and hammer. Although we strive for perfection and the pieces must be custom-made, since they are made by hand, they are never the same. That’s the essence of craftsmanship, which adds uniqueness to each piece,” comments Sebastián.

Thanks to the mastery of this technique of carving fired clay, a large number of works have been completed, most of them in Fuentes de Andalucía, including both new construction and restoration.

In his professional development, his collaboration with the Ecijan architect Fernando Martín Sanjuán has also been very important, as Sanjuán is the winner of the 2020 Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture. This collaboration has allowed him to deepen his understanding of the valuable architectural heritage of the Écija region.

Among the projects carried out by Sebastián, the numerous interventions on the facades of various houses in Fuentes de Andalucía stand out, where he has been responsible for the design and the incorporation of ornamental elements such as pilasters, cornices, pediments, finials, and stipes, all crafted with carved baked clay bricks.

She has also carried out significant restoration projects on historical buildings, such as a grand mansion located on Lora del Río Street in the Seville area, where she restored a Baroque façade and recovered the original splendor of several of its courtyards as well as an impressive tower that had been deteriorated by the passage of time and lack of maintenance.
